Pro Memoria, vol. XII (1965)

Author: Stefan Cardinal Wyszyński

The personal Pro memoria notes left by Cardinal Stefan Cardinal Wyszyński, Primate of Poland, are an exceptional document, for they constitute a unique testimony, written down almost from day to day, of his tireless Primate's activity in the years 1948-1981. From these pages the Primate of the Millennium himself speaks, with each sentence bearing witness to how he understood his responsibility for the Church and the Nation. One may be tempted to say that the notes are a source of such importance that they may change historians' view of the communist period in Poland. This opinion is confirmed by many researchers of the era. It is also rare to find a source comparable to these notes: so extensive and detailed (they consist of thousands of pages of the Primate's handwritten, daily notes), covering such a long period of more than thirty years, and finally made by a man of such great stature.
