Edmund Wojtyła. Brother of Saint John Paul II
Author: Milena Kindziuk
John Paul II said that he experienced the death of his brother "perhaps even more deeply than the death of his mother." It was his brother Edmund, 14 years older, who made Karol fall in love with soccer, theater and mountain hiking. He taught him the principles of faith and went to church with him. When he met his fiancée, he postponed his wedding because, as he claimed, "he had to take care of his younger brother and create conditions for him to get an education."
He did not live to see the wedding. This exceptionally talented man, a promising doctor, died at the age of only 26. He contracted scarlet fever while keeping vigil at the bedside of a sick patient in a hospital in Bielsk.
Renowned journalist Milena Kindziuk, in her first biography of Edmund Wojtyla, creates a fascinating, colorful portrait of the papal brother, who was one of the most important figures in the life of John Paul II.
