Painting the Ten Commandments
Author: Stefan Gierowski
Painting the Ten Commandments is a monograph focusing on the series of paintings by Stefan Gierowski, shown at the Mt 5,14 | Museum of John Paul II and Primate Wyszyński. It takes the form of a compilation of scholarly and journalistic texts and interviews with the recently deceased author, dubbed "the pope of abstraction." The excerpts included in the commentaries to individual works are an attempt to read the Decalogue anew, bringing closer the formal issues of Stefan Gierowski's works, such as the meaning of color or any difficulties in rendering content in non-figurative painting. They dispel the viewer's doubts, suggest possible interpretations and... pose new questions for the viewer!
