Ethical Elementary
Author: x. Karol Wojtyła
In 1957-1959, as part of the series Elementarz etyczny (Ethical Elementary), published in the pages of Tygodnik Powszechny, x. Karol Wojtyła considered the scientific nature of ethics, the problem of disinterestedness, happiness, the origin of moral norms, realism in ethics, perfection, the meaning of duty, material law, truth, mercy and asceticism.
Father Wojtyła's texts published in "Tygodnik Powszechny" were collected in a volume bearing the title of the series: Elementarz etyczny (Ethical Primer). The current edition was prepared on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Catholic University of Lublin and the 100th anniversary of the Restoration of Independence. This is an extremely valuable and important reading. It deals with the basic goals of ethics - practical knowledge, whose mission and purpose is to serve human beings with guidance in directing their own progress. Man must know the truth so that he can act in harmony with what he is and what he ought to be, and so that he can act decently, that is, do good worthy of a human being.
