Using short stories written in accessible language, Piotr Kordyasz's Lolek tells the story of the future pope's youth spent in Wadowice. The author presented both funny, cheerful events in the life of little Lolek, as well as very difficult ones, which were the death of his mother Emilia and brother Edmund.

The book is addressed to children and teenagers. The author's purpose was to familiarize readers with the figure of the Polish Pope and to draw their attention to the values that were instilled in young Karol by his parents.
