Saint John Paul II on postage stamps of the world (2005-2015)
Author: x. Waldemar Chrostowski
Rev. Prof. Waldemar Chrostowski, is a well-known biblical scholar and philatelist. He shares the origins of the latter passion in the introduction to his remarkable publication. Initially he was interested in the Old Testament immortalized on postage stamps, only after the election of Karol Wojtyła as Pope did he begin to collect only those on which the Polish Pope was featured.
The stamps included in the second part of the Saint John Paul II on the World postage stamps catalog cover the years 2005-2015, i.e. the period from the Pope's death until the year of his canonization. The total amounts to more than 300 issues. They are divided into four groups: issues commemorating the pope's death and the period of mourning, then those referring to various anniversaries associated with the pope (such as pilgrimages), the third group includes stamps issued to commemorate the beatification of John Paul II, and the last group includes stamps commemorating his canonization.
