Pro Memoria, vol. VI (1959)
Author: Stefan Cardinal Wyszyński
At the end of October 1958, a conclave elected a new pope - John XXIII. Stefan Wyszyński shared his memories of this event and his entire two-month stay in Rome (October-December 1958) in Volume VI of Pro Memoria. After the Primate's release from internment, relations between the government and the Church were re-established, but the normalization did not last long, as Wyszynski mentioned in his notes.
In this part of Pro memoria, Wyszyński wrote mainly about events in which he himself participated, although he also reviewed social issues, political ones much less frequently. He was primarily interested in the life of the Church in Poland against a socio-cultural background, taking into account the political background. He hardly dealt with international issues, writing only about those that were related to Poland, such as the visit of US Vice President Richard Nixon.
