Pro Memoria, vol. IV (1956-1957)

The fourth volume of Pro memoria includes the years 1956-1957, that is, from just after the resumption of the Primate's ministry after a 3-year imprisonment. During this period, Primate Stefan Wyszyński returned to work in the Gniezno and Warsaw archdioceses, took care of the necessary repair and construction work, but also renewed contacts with lay Catholics. These years also marked the beginning of an extraordinary pastoral program, which was the Great Novena, designed to prepare the nation for the 1966 celebration of the Millennium of Polish Baptism. The years 1956-1957 were also a time of numerous meetings between the Primate and the authorities, and 1957 is a very important year in Church-State relations.
